Rod was born and raised in Belo Horizonte, a pleasant and thriving city in the south-east of Brazil. He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry of the Federal University of Minas Gerais and subsequently obtained most of his surgical training in the UK.
He first came to the UK to attend an MSc in Oral Surgery at King’s College and then was selected for a specialist training programme at The Royal London and Barts Hospitals. He obtained a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and completed his surgical training with fellowships in Belgium and Canada. Rod is currently in the Specialist list of the General Dental Councils of UK and Brazil.
With a lifelong dedication to training and teaching, Rod has lectured to audiences worldwide and published extensively in the international scientific literature. He is a collaborative member and examiner of surgical associations in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. He has regularly attended conferences in many different countries, always with the objective of keeping up with recent advances in the field of Oral Surgery and improving on his skills to benefit his patients.
Rod sees patients at Smilepod in London as well as at his private practice in Brazil. Currently, he also holds Consultant Surgeon positions at Queens Hospital in Romford and Lifecenter Hospital in Brazil.
Rod welcomes anxious patients in need of complex treatment and endeavours to offer a relaxing environment during treatment. He firmly believes that communication is paramount making sure his patients understand and are fully involved in their treatment. Rod is always very happy to address any question and concerns his patients may have about any of the stages of the surgical process.

In his spare time, Rod enjoys international music and movies, eating out and also travelling with his wife and family to see new cultures, heritage and food.
As a true Brazilian, Rod enjoys playing football and is a passionate football fan who loves watching Atletico Mineiro, his home team, playing whenever he can.
